The theme for 2013 Freshmen Orientation Programmes (FOP) is NEXUS.
Nexus refers to a link that connects groups together. We believe that at NUS, people from all walks of life come together and forge eternal friendships and ties that bind through the first stage of FOP, through camps and activities to welcome the freshmen.
Upon entering NUS, freshmen are exposed to NUSSU Freshmen Orientation programmes like Freshmen Inauguration Ceremony (FIC), Orientation Week, and thus being thrust into a colourful campus life with vibrant activities and vivacious attitudes. They receive help and guidance from seniors, undergraduates who have gone through the rigor and challenges of varsity life. The linkage between freshmen and seniors are apparent: through their orientation groups (OGs) or even because they share the same classes. Student bodies such as the National University of Singapore Students’ Union (NUSSU) also help in the crafting of FOPs that create an intricate web of connections and emotional link ways.
Undergraduates participate in various events and commitments, such as being part of their faculty management committees or joining clubs and societies, cherishing the opportunities given to them while at the same time, pulling their juniors hand in hand in the pursuit of academic excellence and personal development.
Even after they graduate, the alumni of NUS remains steadfastly intertwined with their peers and juniors, being part of Alumnus@NUS and constantly take pride in giving back to the university, either through participation in talks or events. There is a sense of appreciation and togetherness, as undergraduates and the alumni forge ever closer bonds, where school events serve as a nexus that connects everyone, everywhere.
This is NEXUS. This is NUS.
