About Rag & Flag

What is NUSSU Rag and Flag?

NUSSU Rag and Flag is an annual charity project that is part of the university’s Orientation Programme. The first part of the project – Flag, will see undergraduates from the university asking for donations all around the island for various beneficiaries. In return, the school puts up a spectacular show - Rag, to thank the kind generosity exemplified by the donors.

NUSSU Flag Day 2011 | EXtending Love

Date: 3 August 2011
Time: Entire day
Venue: Island-wide

‘EXtending Love’ is and has always been the central theme around which the NUS Flag Day is organized. It fosters the bond between the society and its underprivileged half by bringing them together through collecting donations piece by piece and acting as a medium to share the love that we all hope to extend to our fellow men.

Help NUS gather funds for the noble cause of helping others and ‘Extending Love’ towards them. Support our cause by wearing our Flag sticker to show others your support and towards the cause that gathers the 5,000 NUS students who go through the island nation collecting donations.

NUSSU Rag Day 2011 | EXperience NUS

Date: 9 August 2011
Time: 1300hrs till late
Venue: The Promontory @ Marina Bay (How to get there?)
Free admission

“EXperience NUS” is a theme chosen in line with staying close to home, even when venturing beyond. Each student has the power to define his or her NUS experience, choosing their respective halls and faculties that will help shape it. The theme hopes to translate individual faculties and halls’ unique elements of spirit and passion into the grandiosity of the displays and performances.

Watch the 17 faculties, halls and alumni vie for the top honour of Best Float, and many other prizes. Students are required to use only recycled materials in the construction of their floats, something you would never have guessed given the grandiosity of the floats. Witness the transformation of everyday waste items such as bottles, newspapers and drink cans as they take on a different role in helping to create a magnificent procession of floats.

Following last year’s success of the collaboration with the Singapore Youth Olympic Committee to jointly hold Rag Day 2010 as part of the Flame Arrival Celebrations, Rag Day 2011 looks to scale greater heights and present new exciting experiences to both the participants and its audience.

Facing the famed Singapore skyline with perfect views of The Float, the public is encouraged to stay after the performances for the live telecast of the National Day Parade. The venue also boasts an excellent view of the fireworks display that follows after the Parade.

NUSSU Rag Openhouse 2011
